Footnotes cover the people, places, and events mentioned in the book, providing context that contemporary reads would have understood, but modern readers might not.</p> <p>Also included are definitions of words and phrases used in the book, some of which are no longer in use, or used in different ways today. The hundreds of words that are defined are collected in the back of the book in their own index, called the Lexicon.</p>
